Having left Whistler, we got excited in the Vancouver supermarket to see so much nice fruit and veg. We did some shopping as it has been a bit lacking or very expensive in the mountains. We headed to the Canada / US border – what a pretty place.

Unfortunately the welcome into the US wasn’t quite so nice.

We were referred for a second inspection and had to go into the offices for our Spanish inquisition while our vehicle was searched. It transpired that they don’t like: fruit and veg, no definite plan or bookings for your travel, no flight home and the fact that your house is rented out. Oh dear! After they confiscated our Mexican avocados (apparently Mexican peppers are ok though) and a second interrogation to work out if we were planning to never leave their country, they asked us to book a flight home. We said we could if we had to but perhaps if we showed them our bank balance, they could see that we had the funds to do this. That seemed to please Maughan and he took the document to show his boss. An hour or so later, a visa was granted – yeah!!!!! And for longer than we wanted – weird!

We spent our first night in a place called Skagit where we passed a Bikini Express Bar where we couldn’t work out if it was a dancing bar, a drive through waxing joint or a coffee bar where they wore bikinis!

The next morning we drive past a latte bar called the Foxy Lady Latte. I see a theme here!

Anyway on we went to Seattle. Unfortunately it was very rainy but we gather they get quite a bit of rain here.

In a break in the clouds we headed up the Space Needle and stayed there until the sun came out (it was like two different days).

It took a while, but even Pete managed to walk on the glass floor – he still didn’t look too happy about it though.

And then we finished off the day with fish tacos at Pike’s Market – what a great view!
