Pete’s foot is finally healing well, no longer swollen and today was his first day back in flip flops! Bliss!
Now it is Janet’s turn. After a sore throat for the last eight days and, the last two days with swollen glands in the neck that looked like the growth of a second head, we decided it was time to seek expert help. For a few days we thought the sore throat could have been caused by air pollution (why so many locals wear face masks) or the air conditioning (so necessary in the city stifling heat). There was also the possibility that it was linked to an infected mosquito bite and when the bite occurred in the jungle in a malaria area, so some caution is required. Also anything can fester pretty fast here in the humidity so you can’t be too careful.
So a consultation with Dr Dong (yes really!) revealed an ear, nose and throat infection with puss filled tonsils (which he took joy in showing us on a little monitor) – nice! Antibiotics were prescribed to treat both the infection and the mosquito bite. And then the after care was fairly impressive; 2 different anti-inflamatories, 1 painkiller, 1 pro-biotic and 1 vitamin C – wow! All for the bargain price of $45.
We saw another tourist following up on stitches on his foot (I’m guessing a moped accident) – so glad we weren’t there for something like that!
