Last weekend I undertook and passed the Level 1 Adaptive Sports. We learned how to guide the visually impaired, used outriggers, had a go in a sit ski (very tricky), tethered people while snowboarding and learned about how to approach teaching those with a cognitive impairment.

The instructors were great and I am pleased to say that we all passed the course. I have volunteered for the following five weekends to work with a student with a cognitive impairment – let’s put the theory to test!

We have still been getting out skiing when we can and our parallel turns are improving. We even managed some one foot skiing.

Sun Peaks had some great entertainment for Australia Day. I wasn’t brave enough to join in the bikini run but took my stuffed koala out for a day on the slopes instead.

Next up is our snowboaring level 2 exam. Yesterday we finished our training course and have three days off to practice and swot up before our four day exam next week. We may have had a drink or two last night to mark the occasion.

The training has been pretty intense at times but we have still had fun with things like an ollie and nollie competition or the guys trying to “share” their snowboards!

There has also been some pleasant distractions including an amazing lunar eclipse (sorry no photos of that) and daily amazing views.

The weather forecast for next week is minus 30c so that is going to make for and interesting exam – could give “brain freeze” a whole other meaning!
