It was funny looking out the hotel window, whilst doing some menial “no snow” activity, at all the kids who’d just arrived and had NEVER seen snow. They were lying in it, trying to make snowmen etc having just arrived from 27° Celsius in Singapore or Malaysia and not seeming to notice the cold !! Even when only wearing plastic gloves from the food buffet area!! Kids are truly adaptable.
Then several hours later, after a few beers with guests and heavy snowfall, all the instructors had a massive snowball fight. Turns out we are all just big kids excited by snow 😉
The next day Pete missed the 08.15 bus (surprise surprise) but then nearly caught us all after the bus had a few aborted attempts to get up the road and slid back down into a snow bank!!!
We got some exercise the next day as the whole ski team went out on skis and manually packed down the snow to prepare the kids’ and adults’ beginner areas (as there wasn’t enough snow for the piste bashers to do it) and learnt how to operate the magic carpets.
The team’s mood had noticeably lifted and then went through the roof the following day when we were able to do some beginner lessons. It’s reaffirmed our love of teaching, that’s for sure 😍
Runs are still very limited and we need more snow (feel free to do a snow dance for us), but we are all able to teach and are loving it. Pete’s even been teaching a couple to snowboard who are on their honeymoon !! Sounds like a solid test for their marriage 🏂🏂👊🏻👊🏻🤣🤣🤣
The Club Med ideal is that you socialise with the clients for lunch and dinner – which tbh felt a bit forced and rubbish to start with. But now we can sit with students we’ve taught so already know a bit rather than just crashing random people’s tables – it is spot on. We’ve had a right laugh with the Aussies – bit like our old backpacking days. The buffet food is amazing but we are now conscious of having to control ourselves for fear of not fitting in our ski uniforms !!!!!
Dormitory life is quite interesting 🤔 the rest of the team are great. It’s the little things, like the door closers being set too strong ! Once people start getting up, we are all getting up…….. the clothes peg to keep the curtains closed etc, that said there’s a big gap between the outside windows and the inners, which doubles as a beer/wine cooler 😎 We had to be ingenious as every time someone opened a door along the corridor they rattled, but not now with the Claguey patented door stop wedging the two sliding windows apart 🤪🤪
