I’m glad to say that we made it back to the Isle of Man, just one day before they closed the Manx borders to non-residents, two days before Easyjet stopped flying to the island and four days before they also closed the borders to Manx residents -phew!
We have made it to day 12 of our quarantine and haven’t killed each other -yet. We are allowed out once a day for exercise and were incredibly lucky on one of our walks to see a pod of dolphins doing an acrobatic display – amazing. We have some beautiful places to walk on the Isle of Man and have been lucky with dry and sunny weather since we have been back.
Other than that we have sparrows in our back garden to watch. We’ve even completed a rather apt jigsaw as the image was all skiers and snowboarders. We discovered that we approach how to do jigsaws today differently – no wonder that DIY is always a challenge together.
It has been lovely to be back in our own house after a couple of years. And we have had some great friends and family come to our aid by dropping a vehicle at the airport, making sure we had the essentials when we got back, going for shopping for us and dropping alcoholic supplies off. Thank you guys!!!!! It is times like this that make you appreciate what is really important in life. It was lovely standing on our doorstep last night, clapping for all the NHS and frontline workers with all our neighbours.
And although we can’t visit our parents and give them big hugs, it will be nice in a couple of days to be able to go to the supermarket for Pete’s parents and our neighbours who are self-isolating. Shame we’ve had to postpone a trip in April to see my parents, and our friend’s wedding that we needed to be back for (by next week) has also had the celebrations put on hold – but if all these actions and social distancing keeps our loved ones safe, then it’s absolutely worth it.
Rather ironically, since we have been back “on the rock”, Bansko has had more snowfall than all the rest of the season. Just last night, the village got another dump of snow and our friend’s dogs were loving how deep the powder was in the village.
Let’s hope it’s like this next year and we get to enjoy these amazing conditions on the pistes.
