The day started with a great kayak (and free!!!!) on the lake (450 sq miles of it resulting from the huge dam). As you can see there are lots of trees now under water and dying.
We then jumped back on the moped and off again on The loop. After a yummy roadside lunch in Lakxao (next to some traffic lights so a big town!) we decided to skip Dragon Cave and head straight to “Cool Pool” instead.
It was lovely to see locals enjoying the water and the boys jumping from rocks and ridiculous heights from bendy trees – eek!
Then the race was on to get 40km up and dirt / sealed / potholed road before sunset. After avoiding a calf chasing a dog across the road, lots of pigs, goats, chickens, water buffaloes and children riding bicycles and mopeds, we made it to Konglor. The sun had just set behind the limestone mountains and the fields of tobacco in flower looked stunning. Our posh room (Thong Dam guesthouse for about £7) had a little balcony and hammock overlooking a field of it. Bliss! What a great end to the day!
