With the locals singing karaoke (badly) late last night, an early start wasn’t looking likely. So we chilled, had a late breakfast and headed off towards Tha Khaek.
Some great twisty roads and sights to see.
We kept passing the three French guys (thankfully no more accidents for them) and stopped for lunch at a local Lao place. It was nice up until the 2 goats were delivered on mopeds shouting to be let free before they were taken round the back and then silence ……. Well, I guess if you are going to eat meat, then this is the reality – it’s just a bit more obvious than buying your meat wrapped in a tray in Tesco.
The decorations – yes bombs from the war, were a little unusual.
Then back to our swimming hole from day one. Just as we dived in the water, it started to thunder. As we got out after a cooling swim it was starting to rain so Pete stayed in his swim shorts and top – I stupidly dried off and changed. Then we rode the last 10km in torrential (but warm) rain with fork lightening around us. Even the goats took shelter under a shop awning. A bit like in the old 7up advert where they were enjoying running around in the rain – although it was rather stingy on the moped. The local lads thought we were an amusing sight as we passed them on their mopeds. They seemed jealous of our helmets and sunglasses (as bizarrely none of the locals wear either – often they hold up a school text book to shade their eyes!). Hmm, also not the safest when the potholes filled and you couldn’t see the depth but we took it slowly and arrived back soggy but safe. Unlike a guy sitting in the hire shop covered in iodine and gravel rash as we safely handed our moped over and collected Pete’s passport. Today was an chilled and entertaining end to Tha Khaek loop (and back). We have loved it!
