And the miracle was …….. we were out sightseeing before 8.30am!!!!! If you know how much Pete loves mornings then you will understand this ground breaking news. We arrived from the “sleeper” bus at sunrise, went to our hotel had some breakfast and headed out to see the capital’s sights (of which there aren’t too many). First we checked out an old ruin of a temple (That dam) and the old French colonial buildings.
Then onto the independence monument (Patuxay) which is like the Arc de Triomphe (strange to mark the independence from France).
You can see Pete had to sit down from the shock of the time of day.
Then off to see the Palace and gardens along the Mekong River front Chou Anouvong Park).
After that an afternoon nap (or 4 hours sleep more like took place). Then off to the crazy night markets and to partake in some city night life.
Thailand is just over the river in the distance.
Day 2 and Pete could no longer avoid a Wat (temple) but I only dragged him around the one.
Inside this temple you weren’t allowed to touch anything – unless it was with a note of cash.
But we found some amazing carving in the gardens.
And that was Vientiane done. Time to pack up and head on. This time we are trying a VIP non-sleeper bus so we can see how hairy scary the trip is.
Glad we weren’t on this one!
I did love this lady’s mobile shop – please don’t turn any tight corners !!!!
