Here’s a few things that have tickled us in the few weeks we’ve been in Bansko, Bulgaria.
1. In the gondola on the way to the slopes at 8:30am the other day and there’s a few instructors from other ski schools – one of whom has his Dr Dre speaker blaring…. then the girl opens here rucksack and produces a bottle of JD !! Fair play they did offer it to everyone π Then she pulls out a bottle of red wine and a corkscrew and starts drinking that !! She also had some quite nice local chocolates so it was all good.
2. Then there’s the instructors breakroom, cloakroom and lunch restaurant under the tree.
It’s all about the fine dining and a possibility of a sit on the wall of the well during the 15 minute breaks we get π€π€. Some of the snowboard instructors just seem to go for liquid lunches instead!
3. Being welcomed to our ski school like family – Xmas day saw Secret Santa in the shop which also meant whiskey!!
No mixers and Janet wouldn’t normally drink that – but when in Rome π Then it was George 2’s grandma’s amazing bread (with coins and branches inside which symbolise wealth and health if you get that on your slice) Pete got Health and yummy dessert a bit like baclava
4. Then there was the official New Year’s Eve fireworks without health and safety. After meeting Susan at her friends house, we were treated to some lovely curries and hospitality before all walking down to the town square for midnight. The fireworks were ace and seemed so close, then as the sparks and debris landed in our eyes and faces, we realised why fireworks seem so distant in the UK π€£
5. 10 jagerbombs being cheaper than 4 π€£π€£ well that’s what Deano (one of our clients) said when he came back from the bar !
Sure we all drank them and it’s great to see that people have enjoyed themselves that much that they want to treat you to a drink but the maths didn’t really stack up π€ We had a fun night of dancing, with salopettes rolled up to the knee as it was so hot, and managed not to have much of a hangover.
Although the child spewing into a bag in the gondola the next morning did nearly push us over the edge.
6. The Bulgarian deals so if you don’t buy a beginner’s lift pass you can just pay “a guy” 15 leva cash for the day. Or a one way VIP gondola ride that can be arranged at a special price if you know the code word.
And that’s what makes Bulgaria so much fun π
