This weekend was the pre-opening weekend for the Les Arcs bike park. Yesterday the funicular from Bourg Saint Maurice to Les Arcs 1600 opened – yippee!! There was also one chairlift open to take you up to 1950 so we bought our season passes and headed up there with our mountain bikes.
We took a blue trail over to 1800 thinking that more chairlifts were open – but alas not. That did result in a teeny bit of black trail (which I had sworn I wasn’t going to do) a long, very hot slog on the cross country trail (fire track and road) followed by a road slog back towards Les Arcs 1950 to pick up the Route 66 blue trail. In the 27 degree heat, cycling up the hill in a full face helmet and body armour was not the best idea – phewie!
Anyway, safely on Route 66 we pootled back down the mountain via little villages all the way round to Le Pre and then back to Bourg Saint Maurice.
The blue trail was a bit of single track, mostly fire track and unfortunately some tarmac. Can’t see us doing much of that trail again. Pete is itching to try the black trail down- eek!
Next time we go up, all the bike park and lifts will be fully open so we should have much more choice or trails and terrain.
