So after the last sombre post we thought we should show you some of the lovely parts of the city. The Royal Palace is open in parts for you to wander around (although you can’t always take photos and have to cover up to show respect).
The whole of the floor in this pagoda was made of silver floor tiles weighing 1 kg each, so over 5 tonnes in total! And the emerald Buddha was made of baccarat chystal, oh and the gold Buddha has 2086 diamonds and weighs over 90kg – wow!
And here is a rain drum – something not normally required in the Isle of Man.
And here is Pete trying to stay cool by throwing the water from the fountain over his shirt.
At night the city is pretty with lots of lit fountains and lights in the trees. But at 9pm on a Friday we we taking our lives in our hands to cross the 6 lanes of traffic by the Independence Monument!
Then as we are sitting in a bar on Bassac lane some huge earth moving machine on catapillar tracks rumbles past. It had two guys whose job was to keep placing boards in front of rhe tracks and another man checking the height clearance of the electric cables with a bamboo pole!
What a crazy place!
