So we may have just discovered a new favourite animal – the sea otter. They are so cute, playful and then they just wrap themselves in kelp to stop them drifting and chill while keeping their head and front paws dry. We had seen them around Morro to Bay and Monterey but then went kayaking in Moss Landing and paddled up the Elk Slough where you could get really close.
We also popped back down to Laguna Seca to watch the start of day 4 in the Tour of California – and cheer Cav on.
The campsite at the track is very chilled and filled with birds and bats, it was especially nice with a fire and toasted marshmallows!
We also popped back to Santa Cruz for a second swim in the outdoor 50m pool owned by the University of California – in the rain – it was ace!
We had an interesting stop in Half Moon Bay where we pulled into the beach carpark to decide where to stay. It was raining and windy but there were a few cars about. Suddenly I noticed the car next to us rocking – more than the strong wind was rocking our van. I looked more closely and the windows were blacked out and the sun shade was up and now the car was bouncing. The next minute the engine started and the car drove off – think we’d found “one of those” car parks. We left pretty quickly but Pete was keen to pop back the next morning in the heavy rain to see how busy the car park was then π No wonder they clear everyone out overnight!
