Whilst Janet was spending a weekend in Edinburgh, Pete settled on a campsite just outside Nice in Villeneuve Loubet Plagne. It is right on the coast and very flat enabling Pete to go on a couple of one-handed cycle rides, safe in the knowledge that he didn’t need his front brake too much. He also went to Sospel to look at the mountain biking and torture himself of what he could have ridden if he hadn’t injured his thumb. 5 weeks on the movement was coming back slowly with the daily exercises.
Janet returned on a flight to Nice along with Lauren and Ais, who were heading to Monaco for work. Pete and Janet then enjoyed five days sightseeing on the Cote d’Azur starting in Monaco with a visit to Prince Rainer’s private car collection.
Then a gorgeous cycle ride to the beautiful old village of Antibes and seeing the largest private yacht in the world.
Next a cycle ride with Lol to Antibes beach for a swim in the sea (well some of us went swimming anyway).
Followed by a lovely coastal cycle ride to Nice to visit the stunning old town.
And lastly a stunning coastal walk from Cap d’ail to Monaco (Sentier Littoral) – which may also have included a swim in the sea for one of us.
Monaco was in full swing for Oktoberfest so we may have had a couple of drinks before our return train.
And now it has started raining here and with less than a week left before our boat from Calais, we may have to drag ourselves away from the Cote d’Azur and start a journey homeward bound.
We will be sad to leave such a lovely place where sport and adventure can go hand in hand. I have never seen a promenade shared harmoniously by so many people of all ages exercising and enjoying and using bicycles, tandems, skates, scooters, skate boards, hover boards, stepper bikes – you name it, it’s here!
