The three days of the Level 1 course have been quite intense with homework in the evenings, tasks to do over lunch and lots of feedback to be absorbed throughout the day.

Day 1 seemed to go pretty well and the rider improvement section was especially enlightening. Day 2 was more about the teaching and our group’s demos weren’t great made worse with confusion about how to demo the perfect pendulum and J Turn. This messed with our heads and our group started over thinking stuff and getting in a bit of a mess. Our instructor cleared up the confusion and a post course yoga session helped clear my mind. Day 3 started much better with sessions on teaching kids and then a really good rider improvement afternoon session followed. With no clues in how we’d done our instructor left us to write up our score sheets and feedback.

We had a quick last run of the day, jumped in the hot tub to unwind and then got ready for our Level 1 presentation. The good news is that all the skiers and the snowboarders from the Winter Sports Company passed – yippeee!

As you can imagine, there was a lot of celebratory beers consumed. In fact, we’ve just calculated that we spent $178 on drinks last night – eek! We won’t be doing that again in a hurry. It was a great night though with lots of laughs and banter finished off with snow angels, among other things, being drawn in the fresh snow.
