Click for photos. So our flight with Emirates was via Dubai and continuing the theme of not really looking like backpackers – we got a free upgrade to something like premium economy. Ooh we were very happy upstairs on the Airbus with lots of legroom and just the two of us in wide roomy seats. It almost made the circling over Dubai for an extra hour and a half in thick fog pleasurable. Pete then had beer with his breakfast 6am local time) and I refused to tell him the dirham exchange rate before he placed his order so he didnt know how expensive it was going to be. Then unfortunately our next flight was back to the usual with a further hour delay and the guy next to me spilling over the armrest and elbows bumping trying to eat from your little trays. Ah well, we got a bit of sleep and finally got to Bangkok at 9.30pm local time to 25 degree heat. I regretted not changing into my shorts, like pete did, once we got the train and then walked a couple of blocks with our rucksacks. In my trousers and walking boots it got a tad hot and sweaty – now I feel like I really am backpacking again! Can’t wait to do the reverse journey tomorrow back to the airport in the heat of the full sun !
