After an unsuccesful attempt for a US seasonal work visa to work at Lake Superior, we decided to take to the road and explore Canada and Northern USA instead. We purchased a 2007 Ford E150 which has been fitted out with a bed, a small kitchen space, shelving and under bed storage. I have named him Fred but Pete chooses to call him Louis III, following our last two vans.
We moved out of the now very empty Hearthstone Lodge but stayed in Sun Peaks for a few nights. This gave us time to get the van registered and insured, and to clean the van inside and out ready for us to pack it up and get going. We decided to invite all the remaining guys around to help use up the leftover food we had been donated. A feast for 11!
After one last Sun Peaks hot tub, it was time to leave.
We stopped enroute to Kamloops to have a look at frozen Hefley Lake and then went to see the ice hockey.
The Blazers were playing the Victoria Royals and whoever won would go through to the next round of the playoffs. The game was a sell out and the atmosphere great, but unfortunately The Blazers were beaten 4-1.
We did however witness two different panels of glass being smashed during the game which apparently is extremely rare and added to the excitement.
And then our first night in the van ……. It was a bit chilly on your face but toasty under the duvet. We did add a sleeping bag to our shopping list, just in case we stayed anywhere colder on our travels. We did find a great breakfast spot by the river.
Our shopping list was quite long but a day in Kamloops got everything ticked off. We celebrated by going to the cinema – something we hadn’t been able to do for months. What a treat !
