The reason we came to Japan is because the powder is famous the world over and known as JaPow. Apparently we are only just coming into the best part of the season but the last few days the Japow has been amazing. With tree runs during our lunchtime laps.
Yesterday, I (Janet) finally got a day on standby where I wasn’t needed last minute to teach skiing or snowboarding (the draw back of being able to teach both is that there is usually some lesson that we are needed for) so I got to be on ski training – in fresh deep powder! It was amazing! The technique for powder skiing is totally different to on piste skiing – basically you have to do all the bad things like ski with yours skis really close together, put more weight on the inside ski and start the turns with your shoulders/hips. So wrong but feels so good when you get into the flow with a bounce between each turn.
Then today was our day off, and our legs are knackered so rest was the order of the day BUT instead we joined the SB4 lesson and went snowboarding 🤦🏻♂️
It was snowing last night when we were in the bar talking to Greg (SB4 coach) and Miwa who was the only guest signed up, so we were easily convinced to join them instead of resting.
The day started with entering the slalom race !!! Never done that before on snowboards… so different to skiing the race course but still a fun challenge.
Then we took the gondola up to the top, hiked up higher and WOW 😎
Totally untouched, deep, fluffy powder 😍
Followed by Chute 1 (ungroomed Black run) and the narrow Monkey Trail, then back up and a hike, followed by Chute 2 (ungroomed Black run) and Monkey Trail again. It was honestly awesome fun and the best powder we’ve boarded in.
After lunch we were going to go back for another run buy common sense prevailed so instead we soaked and massaged the legs on the foam roller. So tempting to carry on but we are back to work tomorrow and it is snowing again………
